Target Audience:
Domestic violence, sexual assault and other service providers. Community organizers, human rights activists and students working
on women’s rights issues.
Course Description: Violence against women is a world wide phenomenon as is the fight for women’s rights.
This training will explore various abuses against women’s humans rights along with the strategies developed to ensure
that women’s rights are respected while working within the political, social and cultural context of the various societies.
Activists, academics and practitioners, working on an individual and collective level, will share how they analyze, contextualize
and mobilize to combat human rights abuses against women. The emphasis will be on recognizing existing strengths within the
communities as opposed to creating a dependency on outside organizations. This successful training was offered for first time
by the Network on March 2006. Due to a large public request it will be held again this year –serving as a forum for
internationally acclaimed women and human rights activist.
