 Is Domestic Violence a Public Health Issue?

Course Description: The U.S. Department of justice reports that 37 percent of all women who seek care in hospital emergency rooms for violence related injuries by a current or former partner.  In addition, many abused women are allowed to leave home only for a health related matter; and yet the large majority of hospitals and publioc healther centers have no policies and or protocols in place that ensure a proper- and often live saving- intervention.  How can we engage public health leaders ro respond to family violence?  This training will explore how domestic violence advocates and healthcare professionals can collaborate to best support survivors of domestic violence. Local and national best practices will be also discussed.

Credits Offered:  5 contact hours, 5 CEUs, LSWs, LCSWs, LCPCs and ICDVPs

De acuerdo a la Ley del Estado de Illinois sobre Violencia Doméstica (IDVA) al personal y voluntarios de los programas de violencia doméstica se les requiere completar un entrenamiento de 40-Horas para que mantengan la confidencialidad en su trabajo con sobrevivientes de violencia doméstica.


Este entrenamiento es la capacitación básica para los nuevos trabajadores en este campo. El entrenamiento se enfoca desde una perspectiva progesista del movimiento de violencia doméstica y busca proveer a las(os) participantes con la filosofia y el marco teórico politico de esta corriente del movimiento.

Course Description: Over 3 million children are at risk of exposure to domestic violence each year.  Children who live with domestic violence face numerous risks, such as the risk of exposure to traumatic events, the risk of neglect, the risk of being directly abused, and the risk of losing one or both of their parents.  All of these can lead to negative outcomes for children and clearly have an impact on them.  This training will give advocates the tools for working with children who experienced traumatic events in relation to domestic violence and sexual assault.
