On March 22-23, 2006 the CMBWN sponsered a two-day state wide domestic violence
training aimed at Violent Crime Victim Advocats (VCVA). With over 100 participants - prosecutors, law enforcement and social
service/court advocates - from across the state the the training was a success.
Workshops focused on such diverse
topics as, "Domestic Violence within Rural Communities," Working with Child Witnesses," and "Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence."
There were also plenaries addressing systemic issues such as how to encourage survivors to participate in posecutions and
how to address system players who abuse. In addition to our four national trainers: Deborah Tucker, Candace Mosley, Barbara
Hart and Jan Russell, we also recruited trainers that could supplement and provide a more localized view (rural and urban)
on the issue including: Srgt. David Goins from Alton Police Department, Jim Drozdz from Hancock States Attorney and Bridget
Healy Ryan from the office of the Cook County States Attorney. All three local speakers donated their time. We thank all the
grant monitors, the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence and our wide array of staff and volunteers to ensure this
was an interesting and informative event.
