Children and teens affected by domestic and dating violence have become
authors to share their experiences.
"Creative Expressions of Violence Through the Eyes of Youth" is free
to organizations and institutions that serve young people. Ten thousand copies were printed, said Gwyn Roland, director of
the Chicago Domestic Violence Help Line.
The book features poetry, essays and artwork from teens and children.
It also has resource information for adults who come into contact with young people who are victims of dating violence or
witnesses to domestic violence.
"It just stinks that you have to live watching fight after fight," a
10-year-old boy writes in the book. "After a while it takes a toll on you. I fall asleep at night wondering what is going
to happen. I wish there was no violence and no fighting."
The book was funded by the Little Angel Foundation, an organization that
serves battered women and their children.
Copies can be obtained from the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women's
Network.
